4 Renewable Energy Facts You Probably Didn’t Know

Renewable energy is experiencing a growth faster than any other source of energy in the world. Here are 4 renewable energy facts that you probably didn’t know!

1. In 2017, The Creation Of New Solar Power Capacity Beat All Other Energy Sources.

The cost of producing one megawatt-hour of electricity from solar power is around $50. In comparison, this is cheaper than the cost of producing one megawatt-hour of electricity from coal, which is around $102.

2. The United States Has A Current Potential Of Installing 23,735 Megawatts Of Offshore Wind-Power Capacity By 2030.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), this is a 79,016% growth from our current capacity of 30 megawatts. Did you know that U.S. will also have 100,000 megawatts of onshore wind power installed soon?

3. Hydroelectricity Was The Highest Renewable Electricity Generation Source In 2017.

Hydroelectricity provided 7% of the nation’s total electricity generation in 2017. Did you know that all 50 states generate electricity from hydropower, with Washington obtaining up to 72% of its electricity from water?

4. In 2017, Biomass Fuels Made Up About 5% Of The Total Primary Energy Use In The United States.

Furthermore, nearly 47% was from biofuels (mainly ethanol), 44% was from wood and wood-derived biomass, and 9% was from biomass in municipal waste. Did you know that ethanol production in the midwest, also known as America’s Corn Belt, creates one of the largest carbon sinks on the planet?

As The Cost Of Renewable Energy Continues To Fall Rapidly, It Is Expected To Become A Consistently Cheaper Source Of Energy Than Fossil Fuels Within A Few Years. The Renewable Energy Revolution Has Become Not Only A Sustainable Decision For Society, But An Economically Smart One As Well. Renergy Is Along For The Ride!
